What is Realised PNL and Unrealised PNL? And how do we calculate Net Profit?

In trading, PNL means Profit and Loss — it shows how much you earned or lost.

There are two types:

1️⃣ Realised PNL

This is the actual profit or loss after you close a trade.

• Added or deducted from your trading wallet

• Final and cannot change afterward

Example:
Buy Bitcoin at $30,000, sell at $35,000 →
Realised PNL = +$5,000

2️⃣ Unrealised PNL

This is the current profit or loss on open positions.

• Changes as the market price moves

• Becomes realised only when you close the trade

Example:
Buy Bitcoin at $30,000
Current price = $35,000 →
Unrealised PNL = +$5,000 (but can still change)

Net PNL = Realised PNL − Trading Fees
